Time to Tidy Up The Place and Humbly Accept Awards

It’s been a while since I last tidied up the odds and ends and things outstanding, and I have a few minutes. Here goes.

1. Evea at Anthony’s Ramblings hit me up with my first Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I enjoy this blog and thank Evea for recognizing me. I enjoy the posts and I can now say I have a blogging friend in South Africa.

2. The Blog Of Funny Names made up 2 awards for me (which are special because no one else has them). Hit the link to see them.

3. Life In The Drivethru bestows a Sunshine Award on me. This blog is great, but seems to have gone dark, no posts since June 3. To bad if it ends, very funny.

4. SightsnBytes, one of my daily stops, was kind enough to nominate me for a One Lovely Blog Award. Thanks Sights, love Newfoundland.

As per my normal, I nominate anyone and everyone for these awards, except my awards from The Blog Of Funny Names. You cannot have those.

Now a bit of music. A Gripping Life popped up a post on album covers today and it made me think of the inside cover of Tres Hombres by ZZ Top, which also made me think of La Grange.

So without further adieu (Canada is bilingual, so I slip in some French here and there) here is La Grange.

The Week That Was

I don’t know how your week went, but mine was pretty good, with a bit of not so good.  Where to start, where to start.  I know, how about with some of the good stuff.

Lori and I have embarked on some hardline retirement planning.  Yep we are getting up there and it (retirement) is getting to be much more of a focus.  We have some ideas, which, if they work out will make life very interesting.

The second great thing this week was being named the winner of El Guapo’s world-famous Friday Foolishness poll.  I was surprised that no one else picked Bob, I mean it is a natural for a roller-coaster name.

The next great thing was becoming a character in HE Ellis “Hellis in Bloggerland” extravaganza.  Apparently I love my iPod and we Canucks love salt water moose.  Poetic license is forgiven.  The cool thing here is that Lori and I had these cross in front of us on the highway between Saskatoon and Calgary a couple of weekends ago.  Coincidence, I think not!

Not something you want to see at 70 MPH

Missed them

And if this wasn’t enough to make a great week, I had my first trivia winner, Lizziecracked, and I was named as a recipient of 2 awards.  Sightsnbytes hit me up with the One Lovely Blog Award, and Lifeinthedrivethru gave me a Sunshine Award.  Both of these blogs are great.  I have followed Sightsnbytes for some time now, and we were both in the above mentioned HE Ellis epic.  Lifeinthedrivethru is a recent discovery for me and i love the humor in this blog.  I will be doing a full acceptance post on both as they are firsts for me.  Thanks.

The only downside, for the second week in a row, our sailing lessons were cancelled.  The reservoir is extremely low as the City of Calgary wants to control the flow of water downstream as the record snow pack in the mountains melts and the massive rain this spring runs off.  Maybe next weekend.

Have a great Fathers Day to all you fathers, I’m going to.  I also hope to have a superb week again next week.

Hello everyone, how in the heck are you.  Lots of stuff over the past few weeks which caused me to make a conscious choice to stop posting for a bit.  The highlights, a trip to Saskatoon, some planning, lots of shopping and some personal changes (all good).  The end is result is a lot of stuff to write about, and some hopeful plans for the future.

For the blog itself, I am going to try to lean more to the travel posts (the original intent), less on the music (2 or 3 times a week,  although it will still, and always will be, a passion), and will try to insert some humor from wherever I find it.

Oh, and before I forget, a big shout out to Magsx2 for solving my posting issue.  If you have a problem posting from your dashboard and use Firefox with the Adblock add-on, disable the Adblock for the WordPress page and all will be well.

All of a sudden, the time I used to have has evaporated into the Spring air.  Some of you may have noticed me missing from both posting and commenting.  This is a result of living in the world’s greatest country, Canada, where we live for summer, the best 4 months of the year.   I will be making some adjustments to my post schedule and consolidating my posting here on Is It Possible To See It All.  If you follow The Real Canadian Music Blog, I will be re-blogging any music posts to that site.  My post schedule will be discarded for the summer and I hope to resume it in the fall. In the meantime, have a great summer.

Hey Ma, I’m A Versatile Blogger – Take 3 and 4

I have more awards to enjoy brag about.  If coming back from vacation involves getting awards, I’m retiring and living in my car.

Im Sooomeeebuddy Again!!

The difference this time is that there is a new logo for the award.  Having been down this road a couple of times already, I will resist passing this along and will thank profusely my 2 nominators.  The first was from Lily In Canada, who writes a terrific blog and is a pretty funny person as well.  The second is from a new friend, from Australia with a great first name, John the Aussie, who runs a blog called Dumb Workers.  Thank you, thank you, gracias, merci beaucoup.

Isn't the new logo spiffy??

Hey Ma, I’m A Versatile Blogger – Take 2

I have another award to prove it.

Im Sooomeeebuddy Again!!

I have been nominated again for the Versatile Blogger Award.  I’m not going to go through the process again, except for thanking The Fibitz.  Fibitz runs a nice travel blog that I follow and enjoy.  For the curious, he defines Fibitz as:

Fibitz [fi-bihtz] 1) a little egg-shaped creature that runs crazy over the world of people; 2) the insanity of the moment; 3) the name my father gave me.

Pay him a visit.

Blog News And Changes

If you don’t make changes, you are standing still, or something like that.  You may notice some changes here over the next few weeks.  I have already changed the look of the blog by going to a 2 column look from a 3 column format.  I felt that a bigger look was more pleasing.  I have also truncated several of the many column features.  I’m not blogging about that stuff, so it should be less intrusive to the look.  I am also not entirely satisfied (bored maybe?) of the current theme, so may make a complete change at some point.

Vectorized law of tangents
Vectorized Law of Tangents

I also have a personal tendency to go off on tangents and lose focus.  To defeat this, I have decided to give myself a bit of a schedule.  This is for my benefit.  I want to stay focused on some of the features I have begun, see them through and start new ones when I get tired of them or actually finish them.

I have placed a new page on the menu which will list my schedule.  I have also placed it here, just to fill space.

Monday          Blue Monday  – A series dedicated to the pioneers of modern music.  A new artist each week.

Tuesday          Talented Tuesday – A review of new releases by Canadian Artists.

Wednesday    Wandering Wednesday – A post relating a tale from our travels.

Thursday        Twitter Thursday – I will review an artist that follows me on Twitter. Lots of new music here.

Friday              Friday Funnies – A post dedicated to our funny bone.

Saturday          Saturday Night Special – A general post which could hit on pretty much anything.

Sunday             Sunday Songfest – A continuation of my series on the best Canadian songs, five at a time.

Hey Ma, I’m A Versatile Blogger

I have the award to prove it.

Im Sooomeeebuddy!!

The award does come with some heavy responsibilities though, kind of like a quest.  The first responsibility is to thank the person who bestowed the honour on me, so for this I humbly thank Guapola.  He writes a very entertaining blog, which I visit regularly.  There is a very loose feel there, with some great wit and parry and thrust.  Oh, and the posts are great.  Stop by there and enjoy yourself.  The second is to nominate 15 blogs for the award, as well as tell them of said nomination, and the third is to share seven random things about myself.

As the quest continues, I must now nominate 15 blogs for the award.  This is the best part of the endeavour.  I began my blog in April, never considering that there is a strong community of fellow bloggers who are both seeking and lending support.  I very much enjoy the community and its denizens and becoming more confident from the support as well as more comfortable in lending it.  With out further adieu. I nominate the following, with a short reason why I chose them.  Please pay them all a visit.  For those who have already received the bling, I apologize for the repeat, yet, in my mind, I still want you to have it, as this time it is from me.

1. Mona Lisa Memoirs

T is an aspiring writer.  I first ran across her on Twitter, through a group of sports bloggers.  She tweets about her beloved Flames and Capitals of the NHL and writes nice and humorous posts about life in Saskatchewan.

2. Zapple100’s Blog

Loves comics, even has a picture of Brainiac on his side bar.  The master of the short post, Zapple mixes music, muses and nostalgia.

3. Short and Fun

Cool stuff kept short is the byline, the blog lives up to it, other than odd Batman post.  A rookie like myself, the posts usually feature music.  I enjoy it because there is something new (to me) on here regularly.

4. The Sportz Guru

I don’t think he is really a guru, but he does know his sports.  I have a soft spot in my heart for this blog as it has 3 firsts for me.  He was the first to like a post, comment on a post and put me on a blogroll.

5. The Music Court

I am a regular visitor to Matt’s site.  His taste in music is just a touch off mine, which I love.  His love of music is right there with mine, which makes for some good conversation.

6. The Everyday Man’s Sports Blog

The hardest working blogger I know.  Had his own radio show, writes columns in various places and, of course his blog.  I enjoy my conversations with Mike.  If you like sports, this is a great place to visit.  Lots of comments.

7. Up For Discussion

Doesn’t post all that much, and usually about Canadian or Saskatchewan issues, which means that most of my readers may not be to interested.  I like to keep up to date and support friends at the same time.  Brandon fits both bills and deserves the recognition.

8. DinoJay2’s travelpod

An old friend of mine from Saskatchewan (actually was a goalie on a hockey team I played on with his dad), he is a very funny blogger who gets around.  One of my favourites.

9. I’ll Walk

An interesting concept. They are currently hiking Japan.

10. Backcountry Tranquility

A good travel blog, currently exploring the highlands of Scotland.  How can you not love a post called “What the Aonach Eagach Ridge taught Me”

11. Love Is Enough

A nice young lady from Tennessee (I think), who writes quick vignettes about her life.  Refreshing and spot on about the important things, Kaylen does a nice job.  A bit of music as well.

12. Life Is a Bowl Of Kibble

She slays me.  I am sure she has this award about 85 times.  Her writing puts a smile on my face, and she loves dogs.  What could be wrong with this blog?

13. The Fifth Top

An excellent music blog, again with taste that is just slightly off mine.  I look forward to the posts here as well.

14. Compass Tales

A travel blog that I recently came across that has a style I like, and great photos as well.

15. Oohgioia

A slice of life blog, well written, with some nice insights, Heather is one of my favourites now.

This concludes the tag part of tonight’s festivities, which leads to the last part of my quest.  I must now share the 7 random things about myself.

  1. Common to most, I still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up.  If you have any suggestions, I am open to listen.
  2. There is nothing more wonderful than a comfy spot where you can watch the world go by, while enjoying a refreshing beverage.
  3. I am cursed (blessed?) with one of those memories that cannot shed useless facts, kind of like Sheldon Cooper at a high school level. I am never invited to play Trivial Pursuit.
  4. I am obsessed with people and places, I can’t get enough of learning and experiencing what others see and feel every day, which fits in well with 2 above, and likely contributes to my love of beer.
  5. I’ve had a giant parrot sit on my shoulder and take the most disgusting crap down my back.  I was the first to volunteer (I’m shy), and let’s say, there was not a huge rush to have the parrot on other people’s shoulders after they saw my experience.
  6. I’ve determined that certain monkeys would make great hats (live monkeys, I’m not that mean).
  7. I can roast coffee perfectly.
