On the Road – Winnipeg, Ottawa, Mont-Tremblant and Montreal

Just a quick note.  We have spent a few days in Winnipeg, then Ottawa and Mont-Tremblant.  We are currently in Montreal for a few days then off to Quebec City.  So far, the trip has been spectacular.  We are so happy to have made he decision to head for Mont-Tremblant prior to Montreal.  The Laurentians are beautiful at this time of year.  I have uploaded a couple of pictures and will do some full posts over the next few days (I hope).

Parliament Buildings

We took a boat tour along the Ottawa River, very pretty, although the foliage has not quite changed yet in this part of the river.  The Parliamentary Library is a beautiful bit of architecture.

The top of Mont-Tremblant

We took the ski lift to the top of Mont-Tremblant.  As you can see, Lori found a shop up there.

My Reasons to Travel….As Often As Possible – Number 5 – The Sights

You wake up in the morning, open the shutters and look out on this……

Mt Vesuvius Across The Bay Of Naples

or you roll over and think to yourself, what shall I do today, maybe this..

Eiffel Tower in Paris

or maybe this…

The Rockies in Montana, USA

These are pictures, which, if you never go, is as close as you will get.  You can only get so much out of a picture, but, you can’t smell the Mediterranean Sea from your window, you can’t see an 800 ft steel structure twinkle like a Christmas tree as the Eiffel Tower does at night and the picture of Montana above is absolutely nothing compared to actually standing there, impressed enough to take a picture that you know won’t be even close to the real thing.  Yes, you say, but who can afford it (I will speak to that in my next post).  To that statement I say, look out your back door.  I don’t care where you live, you are only a few hours away from a whole bunch of amazing things to see and do.

When we first moved to Saskatchewan, we had an involuntary shudder.  What on earth is there to do there.  Surprise, within hours of our front door, we golfed some amazing golf courses, house-boating on Lac La Ronge, boating and hiking to Grey Owl‘s cabin in Prince Albert National Park, super-sliding down sand hills near Sceptre, Saskatchewan and lots of other things to numerous to mention.  All in all, it was you make of what you have.  The biggest issue most of us have is to stop watching The Travel Network, getting up off the couch, and doing it.  Be a travel show instead of watching a travel show.

Elbow Falls and Cobble Flats, Alberta

Northern Lights Over Calgary, Alberta

We have been spending the summer fairly close to home this year.  That may sound unlike someone who likes to travel and wonders “Is It Possible To See It All”, but one must remember that we live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a veritable smorgasbord of things to see and do, all within hours of our home.  On this journey, we travelled about an hour west to K-Country (Kananaskis Provincial Park) and visited Elbow Falls, and continued west to Cobble Flats where we lunched prior to returning home.  We were entertaining some guests from Winnipeg on this run and as we had never been here, we decided it was the place to go.

First stop, Elbow Falls.  The video doesn’t do justice.

The area is very tourist friendly with a paved path along the river, protected by guard rails.  There is a large picnic area, but one has to arrive very early to get a spot.  A nice peaceful area to spend a day though.

As the picnic area was full, we left and headed a bit further west, ending up at Cobble Flats.  A beautiful spot for a nice lunch.  A beautiful creek with a picnic area along the creek.  we grabbed a spot and had a great time enjoying the surroundings and company.

The area is surrounded by beauty in every direction.  It is great to live in this part of the world.
