Canada has lost one of it’s finest athletes in freestyle skier Sarah Burke. She died following a training accident at the age of 29. Sarah had pioneered the superpipe event, winning a world championship and 4 gold medals at the X-Games. Sarah has also been called the finest female skier in the world. She successfully lobbied the IOC to have her event added to the Olympics and was the favourite to win gold in 2014. We love our athletes (if you watched any of the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, you will know what I mean) and a tragedy like this is very sad and is felt very deeply.

A tragedy for the world, whenever a gifted person’s life ends.
At least she died doing what she loved…
It sucks on top of it all her family is on the hook fir 250k in medical bills.
Holy crap.
If you find a donation site for her, please post it.
Also, surprised won’t whatever organization she was a member of (Olympic team or something) help defray cost?
For whatever reason, the insurance was either not enough or not taken out. Our health care system will only pay so much of a bill in a foreign land, which as she was Canadian, means the USA. At any rate, the attached article says they have exceeded their needs via donations, so all is good on that front. http://www.torontosun.com/2012/01/20/donations-to-exceed-sarah-burke-medical-costs
