It Is Time For Hockey To Rule

Today marks the end of the regular season in the NHL, meaning you will see a lot of hockey here for the next couple of months.  Just warning you.  If you happen to be a Vancouver Canuck fan, you may want to stop following me for this period, as I will likely have a few negative rants about this over rated group of crappy hockey players.  Suck it up cause you suck.  Oh…and GO BRUINS.

To celebrate the time of year please enjoy Hawksley Workman and “Hockey (The Greatest Game)”.  There is a drum solo for the first minute and a half, followed by the song.  The lyrics are on the wall behind the band, and you will understand Canadians love for their game more as the song goes on.

Where Is The Stanley Cup – Part 11 – Campbell, Seguin, Savard and Kelly

91 Marc Savard (C)

Greg Campbell received the Stanley Cup from Rich Peverley and took it with him to Kitchener and Tillsonburg, Ontario.  He spent most of his day with the cup at a yard gathering at his home.

The Boston Bruins outstanding rookie,Tyler Seguin was next in line for his day with Stanley.  Tyler made the leap from junior hockey straight to the NHL and, of course, a role in winning the Stanley Cup.  He took the cup to Brampton, Ontario, where 2000 people gathered to help him celebrate.  from there, he went to a friend’s home in Georgetown then to the Club Embassy in Toronto for the traditional pub crawl.

People began lining up in Peterborough at 7 in the morning to see Marc Savard and the Stanley Cup.  While he didn’t play in the playoffs due to concussion issues, he is an integral part of the Bruins in the past and hopes to contribute in their defence of their title.  After it’s time at Kawartha Golf & Country Club, it went to his home where 100 friends and relatives joined him for a gathering.

Next up was Chris Kelly, another lucky one.  He was traded mid-season from the Ottawa Senators and instead of being out of the playoffs, he ended up on a contender and eventual winner of the Cup.  The upside for Ottawa is they get to see the Cup up close, although not in the way we wanted to.  Chris took the cup to a local hospital, was in a parade and ended the day with a family get together at his home, then supper at a local restaurant.

Winnipeg Jets – Update – July 5

The Winnipeg Jets re-signed their captain today.  Andrew Ladd signed a 5 year, 22 million dollar contract to stay put.  Good on Andrew, but a little pricey based on what he has done so far.  It could turn out to be a great move though if he continues to develop.  The team really needed to sign him on so many levels.  One big knock on Winnipeg was that no one wanted to play there, let alone stay.  This signing represents that the opposite may in fact be the truth.

In other news, the Jets also signed forwards Aaron Gagnon and Rick Rypien as free agents.  These would be considered as additional depth moves.

My other team made a few moves today as well.  The Boston Bruins have had some addition and subtraction happenings over the past few days.  Tomas Kaberle has left, signing a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.  This was expected and not entirely a bad thing for the team.  To partially compensate they have signed Joe Corvo in a trade with Carolina.  Michael Ryder has also left, signing a deal with the Dallas Stars.
