Great new song from North Carolina indie-rock/folk band The Avett Brothers. Catchy chorus, well-played. The band has been around in various forms and names (around the 2 brothers, Scott and Seth) since the 1990’s, formally becoming The Avett Brothers in 2000.
They have released 7 albums, 3 live albums 4 EP’s since 2000, This tune is off their latest album, 2012’s “The Carpenter”.

Been heavy on the older tunes lately. Time to hit up some new music, and another shout out to CBC2 without which I would likely never hear a lot of very good music.
Father John Misty (real name Joshua Tillman) has a new album out, “Fear Fun”. This tune is a smoking live take of “I’m Writing A Novel”. I think the word smoking might just be an understatement. The Father is better known as a member of Fleet Foxes and Saxon Shore. Just a wee bit of a pedigree.
May 29 was a very sad day for me. Doc Watson passed away. What a player!! Nothing to say, just listen.

What a talent, and a connection to the old blues and folk singers of the 20’s, 30’s and beyond. Greatly missed.
Gabrielle Papillon is a Canadian singer-songwriter (in a folk vein) with exceptional skills, and yet another talent from Canada’s East Coast. She is from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. She has sung and played since childhood and released her first album in 2001, “Songs For a Rainy Day”. Good tune, and of course, a live version. Very nice voice.

We get into the way back machine with Peabody for this tune. Heard this on CKUA (great station in Alberta). Never heard of him or the song before. Great groove though. Unfortunately, John passed away in 2009. Great legacy, and he played with Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Phil Collins and many more. As an aside, to lazy to do the trivia thing tonight.

Crash Vegas was a Canadian folk-rock band from the late 1980’s. It has a connection to Blue Rodeo in that Greg Keelor, the other singer and songwriter for Blue Rodeo was one of the founding members.  He left the band before they had recorded anything. This song is from their 1989 record, “Red Earth”. The quality of the clip is lacking and I apologize. Could not find anything better.
