Listening to Waylon

Another find on CBC2.  Song came on, radio was turned up and BOOM, instant speeding ticket potential.  You know, it grabs your attention to the point of losing contact with what you are doing.  The song is “Wicked Way”.

Listening to Classics – Donovan

The very first record I bought was Donovan’s Greatest Hits, right around the time of Hurdy Gurdy Man and Atlantis.  Doing some nostalgia surfing while watching the Bruins destroy the Canucks and came up with this one.  Sunshine Superman.  Donovan is still around.  He recorded as recently as 2004 and has recently been placed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  He still tours on occasion.

Remembering Carl Gardner

Remember all those song Ray Stevens used to sing, you know those funny ditty’s like Yakety Yak, or that song Charley Brown, by whoever.  Guess what, someone did them first, the Coasters, and Carl Gardner was the singer and main man for that band.  The video attached is another song made famous by Ray Stevens, “Along Came Jones“.   Enjoy.  Oh, and for the youngsters watching, TV was only black and white back in the 50’s, no colour, no HD.

Listening to OK Go

I normally post for the music.  In this case, I am not a big fan of the song, but the video, wow.  A Rube Goldberg machine par excellence.

Listening to Classics – Jeff Beck

Anyone remember Jeff Beck?  If you do, do you remember his instrumental album “Blow by Blow“.  Doing some browsing and ran across this live video of Jeff Beck doing “Scatterbrain” off the album.  Pretty scary how good these guys are, and the guys are:

Jeff Beck – Guitar

Max Middleton – Keyboards

Phil Chenn- Bass

Richard Bailey – Drums

Listening to Nikka Costa

This song “Push and Pull” was integral to the Johnny Depp film “Blow”.  Sold us on Nikka immediately.  We bought the album this song was on “Everybody Got Their Something”  and discovered a great singer/songwriter.  One of those that can sing the phone book.  Song is a bit slow, but beautifully done.

Listening to Jimi Hendrix

I was surfing and ran into this video of Jimi Hendrix playing “The Wind Cries Mary”  I thought I would share an oldie for a change.  Always enjoyed Hendrix, was a bit ahead of his time I think, and gone to quickly.

Listening to Peter Katz

I love iTunes free song of the week.  The Canadian version of iTunes concentrates on Canadian talent and the best part is the word free!  This song is one of those.  We have been introduced to a wide range of artists through this series, and yes we have actually bought a few because of this.  This is Peter Katz doing Dangerous.  Kind of mellow for my taste, but a nicely crafted song.

Listening to The Pete Walter Band

I have a couple of artists following me on Twitter and I have been checking out their stuff on-line.  The Pete Walter Band is the first of these bands that I am introducing to my friends throughout the internet.  Their music is available on iTunes.  The song I have put up is Troubling Me.  Good tune, interesting video.
