Listening to John Mayer – Redux

I find myself going back to John Mayer on a regular basis.  A very talented guy.  In this video, he is playing acoustic, solo and doing one of my favourites, Neon.  I love the comments on the video.

Listening to Amos Lee

My friend Robin introduced us to Amos Lee, a long time ago.  We have usually enjoyed his albums, but his first and his last are easily his best.  The song attached is from his new album and is a great listening song. He performs it live.  Amos is from Philadelphia and seems to embrace soul, jazz and mostly, folk styles.  He does a good job with all genres and appears to be finally breaking through as he deserves to.

Rock and Roll Turns 60

It is the 60th anniversary of the release of what many consider to be the first rock & roll song.  Jackie Brenston’s “Rocket 88” performed by Ike Turner.  I did not know this.  Ike of course went on to become Tina Turner’s nemesis and contributed some great songs to rock’s legacy.  I could not find a live version so what is attached is as good as I can get.

Cornell Dupree – We Lose Another

Cornell Dupree passed away from complications of emphysema on May 8.  He was a superb guitarist who had played with people like Bill Withers, Donny Hathaway, King Curtis and renowned drummer Steve Gadd.  This video was recorded in 1976 with a band he was in with Steve Gadd, Eric Gale and Gordon Edwards called Stuff.  For these guys it was about the music.
