Weekly Photo Challenge: Masterpiece

I chose these pictures for the Weekly Photo Challenge: Masterpiece as I love scenery and consider it both man’s masterpieces of creation complimenting the natural beauty of many vistas.  The first is photo taken in Ravello, Italy.  It shows the creativity of man, building homes and agriculture in nearly impossible locations.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fresh

Nothing fresher than a glacier in Alaska. The prompt this week is Weekly Photo Challenge: Fresh.  The definition provided is “the definition for fresh has a bit of a fork in it – it’s a state (new, recent, previously unknown) and it’s a taste or sensation (cool, sweet, invigorating, refreshing). Fresh is definitely this cantaloupe (“melone”) granita I enjoyed recently here in Italy. It cooled me down immensely (and it didn’t hurt that it was delicious, too!) “.  Doesn’t fit, BUT, I have an out.

This fits very well.  Fresh can me refreshingly cool.  Taken as a panorama shot on my iPhone.

Daily Prompt: Goals

This prompt from WordPress “Daily Prompt: Goals” dropped into my email the other day. This one got me thinking.  When I started this blog, I had an idea to create a personal storehouse to help Lori and I remember our various adventures and share them with our friends in some way.  I held to this for a while and then, miracle of miracles, people started reading about these adventures, people I didn’t know.  I soon realized that WordPress is a very large community, filled with people with the same general idea, that being, I have something to share with the world.  I started following blogs, getting involved in comments and, all the while watching my blog grow.  As it grew, I began to dabble in other areas of my interests, music, sports and opinion.  I eventually came to a crossroads in that I felt I was losing focus on my original thought for this blog.  I even went so far as to create 3 other blogs, splitting my interests in 4.  This did not work, we don’t get paid for this, and 4 blogs was like a full-time job.  I folded up 2 of them and went to a music blog and the original.  I figured out again that it was far too much work and folded up the music blog as well.  Now I am what I am, and feeling pretty good about it.

 

I still have the urge to track back a bit and concentrate on the travel side more, but, I really love my music as well.  No matter what I end up doing, I do know on thing.  I can’t see me quitting.  This is way too much fun.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Escape

This week the challenge presented us is “Weekly Photo Challenge: Escape”.  In the description, one sentence hit me as so true in my thinking in the past while, “the desire to disappear and run away, the need to unplug and shut off”.  To some this may mean solitude, or winding down.  To me it means leaving nothing on the table as life rumbles on.  See it all, experience as much as one can and do it in such a way that maximizes the experience and allows opportunity for that solitude, and the lowering of one’s stress.  I think we have found our avenue to escape with a simple sailboat.  I sincerely hope we can work this one out.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Pattern

This week we have The Weekly Photo Challenge: Pattern.  We have seen a lot of patterns in our travels, clouds, lights, architecture, but, to date, we have seen nothing more interesting than the Mezquita de Córdoba in Cordoba, Spain.  A unique structure that melds a mosque, converted to a cathedral.  Originally started as a church, it was converted to a mosque after the Moors conquered this part of Spain.  It was largely rebuilt and then, when the area was retaken by the Spanish, it was again converted to a church.    A very interesting background and a stunning combination of various architecture.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Color

I see color is the Weekly Photo Challenge, which is not as easy as it sounds.  Do you go subtle, or bold or obvious or even dark.  Many choices to make.  Caribbean blue, tropical green, Canada white, doors, windows, food, flowers.  One of them will work.  Let’s go with a shot of the garden at Anne Hathaway’s cottage in Stratford-On-Avon in England.  We spent the better part of a day there in August 2008.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Lost in the Details

For this challenge I have to return to La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain.  The façade is amazing, to the point that it is almost impossible to do it justice in a photo.  I sat, staring for the better part of an hour trying to take it in, without success.  Very inspiring, very beautiful and hard to imagine the thought, time and effort that was utilized to create it.
